PRP & PRF THERAPY

What is it?

Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy is a non-surgical treatment that utilizes your own body’s healing abilities to stimulate skin and follicle recovery. It is a natural treatment that uses the platelets from your own blood. These activated platelets secrete and release at least 7 different growth factors which enhance the natural healing process of the skin and hair follicles.

During a PRP Therapy treatment, a small amount of blood is drawn from you into a sterile tube in the exact same manner as a standard blood test. The tube containing your blood is placed into a centrifuge and spun to separate the plasma and platelets from the other blood components.

After a few minutes, the PRP layer is removed from the same tube and re-introduced into the body at the site to be treated. Using a small sterile needle, your practitioner will inject the PRP in and around the desired site.

The production of collagen induced by the PRP will brighten, rejuvenate and rehydrate the skin even after the first treatment. A course of 3-4 treatments are recommended to see the full effects of this pioneering technique.

PRF, is an all-natural solution that can treat areas in the face that show the first signs of aging, like under-eye hollows, deflated cheeks and in the scalp for hair restoration. Harvested PRP has platelets, fibrin and white blood cells, which helps achieve wound healing, collagen production and improved elasticity.

How does it work?

Our own blood plasma contains “platelets”, which carry many powerful proteins and enzymes known as “growth factors”. These miraculous, natural elemenets promote the healing of damaged skin, including skin that has loosened or lost volume due to the natural ageing process.

During PRP Therapy, our skilled doctor takes a small amount of your blood. This blood sample is then processed and filtered to isolate your plasma that contains the platelets. The doctor injects this platelet-rich plasma into your treatable areas, causing the fluid to release its proteins and work their natural magic in your skin. The surrounding cells begin to proliferate and repair damage. Collagen production is enhanced and your skin increases in volume. Over time, your skin becomes firmer, radiant and rejuvenated.

PRP for hair loss

In the last few years, PRP therapy has emerged as an intriguing preventative treatment for hair loss, suitable for both men and women. By separating your own blood (as described above) and then injecting the new Platelet-Rich-Plasma sample into your scalp, it is believed that any stem cells around your targeted hair follicles are kickstarted into action. The result is that new hair growth can be promoted, even with follicles that had previously been inactive.

PRP therapy can be used in conjunction with all hair loss medications, such as Minoxidil and DHT blockers, such as finasteride. You can even use it to complement any hair transplant procedures you may have had elsewhere, the injections working to stimulate the newly planted follicles in your scalp.

As with all hair loss treatments, results vary from patient to patient, but PRP therapy has shown to improve hair calibre and hair thickness. For optimal results we recommend that you repeat PRP procedures every three to four months.

What is the downtime?

There is no recovery time with PRP therapy and side-effects are rare. Occasionally some patients experience bruising and redness in the injected areas.

How many treatments are needed?

Typically, patients require two to three top-up treatments to maintain results that can last for as long as 18 months.

How long does the treatment take to work?

For skin and face concerns, it will take a few weeks for the results of the PRP treatment to show. However, with two to three top-up treatments, the results of PRP therapy can last for up to 12, or even 18 months.
